Can you get replacements for the end or butt caps on golf clubs? Do replacement grips come with end/butt caps?

Terry asked:

I am new to golf and am looking at some used irons on Ebay. Of the four clubs, all look like they will need new grips and two do not have end/butt caps. If I buy them would I be able to replace the end/butt caps? Where would I go to get that done? Thanks.

If the clubs have end caps on the shaft, they might be somewhat older. You would be better off buying some newer clubs.

However if the end of the grip is just torn or punched off then a new set of grips will solve your problem.

Just get new grips. Not very expensive and your local store will have them in stock and do them for you. The end cap is not a separate item, it is part of the overall grip.

I woild be leary of purchasing clubs which required butt caps. Those go back to the days of the wound leather grips on the first steel shafted clubs to keep moisture out of the shafts. These were used through the late 1960s and early 1970s before the moulded one piece grips were developed which eliminated the need for the end caps.

very old clubs no later than 1979. very hard to hit. the grips you described fit that era. it may be worth your while as a newcomer to the game to find a set of game improvement clubs. the ones you have chosen were great , but will not improve your game. the last company to use butt grips mizuno and great asian clubs honma. to replace with same grips. would cost at least 18 per iron. try to find newer set. your wallet will love you. the game is hard enough. even mid 1990s irons will help.

I agree with most of the advice given. The clubs you’re looking at are too old to consider. If you are just starting out as a golfer, go to a store or shop that can fit you properly with an inexpensive beginners’ set. You will find the game much easier and more enjoyable if the clubs suit your build and athletic ability, than if you just buy something because of a cheap price.
